I'm... not 100% sure I'm following what you mean but if you do mean what I think you mean then yeah, pretty much. (There's a reason I didn't pursue philosophy and am sticking with languages instead. But it might also be the lack of beer ;) )
As for what level I'm at you guessed right, there is a disseration involved (to be defended in September because year abroad). I don't know if many would consider the subject interesting (language policies in Sweden during the 17th century; I was totally justified in re-reading Dumas, it was contextualization), but it is to me because 1) yay, Swedish! & 2) I'm one of those people who can get into anything if they start digging into it, apparently. And it's going surprisingly okay - but that may be because it's not my first master's so there's less pressure ^^
